Service fails to start in a timely fashion?
« on: January 21, 2005, 09:17:18 »
Thomas -

We've tried setting up 3DWatch to run as a service on a Windows XP machine. However, when we try to start the service, it fails. The progress bar gets about half-way complete, then slows down, and eventually a message box appears:

Could not start the 3D · Dynamic DNS Client & Dial Up Network Dialer service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Two entries are added to the system event log when this happens:

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the 3D · Dynamic DNS Client & Dial Up Network Dialer service to connect.

The 3D · Dynamic DNS Client & Dial Up Network Dialer service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Can you offer any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks,
Annette

Hi Anette,

I'm very sorry, but I don't have an idea what is the reason for this behaviour. I know that this happens sometimes and have it on top of the to do list for the next version.

Sorry that I don't have a sufficient answer right now.

Have a nice day!

Okay, thanks for the answer.  Guess I'll have to try something else for now.  Since no one is normally logged into the server at all times, we really need something that will work for us as a service.
